The HR Business Partner also collaborates with HR Centers of Expertise (COEs) and Shared Services Center (SSC) to ensure effective development and execution of enterprise-wide programs and initiatives. At Rakuten, our culture shapes who we are and how we operate. This HR Business Partner role primarily provides strategic HR support to the Americas Technology Division.

The Day-to-Day:

• Partner with HR Counterparts and remote managers in Japan and across the United States to drive consistent HR Strategies and processes for the technology organization.

• Consult with business leaders to determine critical needs through needs assessments and gap analysis and drive initiatives as appropriate to support business objectives through attending weekly meetings and participating on improvement teams.

• Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations. Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.

• Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to show the health of the client group. as it relates to retention, promotion, quality of hires, diversity, etc.

• Partners with Corporate COEs in leadership development, compensation, staffing and legal as appropriate to help drive organizational initiatives.

• Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

• Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

• Support employee engagement efforts across the enterprise to reduce turnover rates while enhancing employee productivity

• Execute action plans to introduce and reinforce desired culture

• Drive HR standardizations, processes, and efficiencies across regional footprint and/or business unit

• Drive Human Capital Planning: Develop and implement HR solutions that drive performance improvement and support the short- and long-term business objectives

• Drive manager accountability for effectively fulfilling the Role of the Manager (e.g., development, performance management, succession and talent management, and pay for performance)

• Work proactively with managers and leaders to evaluate and prepare for future talent needs

• Serve as a change management leader, effectively preparing managers and leaders to drive change

• Participate in and/or lead specific projects, as assigned

We’re excited about you if you have:

• A bachelor's degree in HR or equivalent.  Masters (preferred)

• Experience supporting a product and engineering team (preferred)

• This position requires a minimum of 8 years of HR/OD/OE or relevant work experience.  Experience in more than one industry or business sector is highly desired, with particular emphasis on disruptive technologies (preferred). 

• Working and practical knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, organizational design, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook. Should be proficient and comfortable working with spreadsheets and data, ensuring data integrity and accuracy is maintained when working with Excel spreadsheets.  Workday HRIS experience is preferred.

• Experience in Mergers & Acquisitions a plus, especially as it relates to integrating and acclimating acquired employees to the culture and processes, anticipating necessary actions to execute a smooth transition. 

• PHR, SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential a plus
