Rakuten Catalog Platform is an exciting project at Rakuten. Our mission is to provide an accurate, compelling catalog with millions of products covering thousands of merchant partners – and build highly relevant search and other services to take our e-commerce offering to the next level. This platform supports global business units from many countries including USA, Japan, UK, Germany, Canada and others.

 

This platform uses Big Data technologies, Cloud infrastructure, open source scalable search platform and cutting-edge machine learning/statistical modeling and it will be highly leveraged within the company, becoming the foundation for our next-generation of applications.

We are looking for a talented software development engineer to help extend and maintain our best in class catalog system, by working on Customer Solutions and Integrations. Our catalog system takes in merchant data and third party data to provide our customers with rich product data. This is an opportunity to make a difference on one of the largest product catalogs in the world.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Extend and maintain a custom pluggable service oriented framework for data importation, transformation, cleansing, and validation.

• Extend and maintain a product catalog system with focus on e-commerce marketplace.

• Communicate with the management team effectively and clearly.

• Work in an agile environment.
• Deliver projects on time.

 

Required Skills:

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• Strong SQL knowledge.
• Experience working with large data sets.

• 5+ years of software engineering with full development life cycle.

• 3+ years of Java and Ruby on Rails programming and debugging skills.

• Must have strong abstraction abilities and be able to create good logical data model.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced Agile development and rapid deployment in the Cloud/SaaS environment.

• Strong knowledge of at least some of the following frameworks/technologies – Hibernate, Spring, REST, XML, JSON, ActiveMQ, RebbitMQ

• Experience with any of these technologies a HUGE plus: Big Data (Cassandra / Hadoop), Spark, Flink, Kafka, machine learning, Cloud (AWS or Google Cloud)

• Experience with tools and technologies like Gradle, Maven, Jenkins, git, IntelliJ, Eclipse, Docker to support end to end software development

 
Preferred Skills:

• Solid pattern recognition abilities, including experience writing complex RegEx

• Excellent knowledge of API design
• Knowledge of JSON, XML and XPath
• Strong knowledge of Linux

• Knowledge of internationalization, character sets and locales

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
