The advertising business is one of four focus areas of Rakuten. Currently, we at Rakuten are challenging ourselves to expand our revenue from the advertising business from JPY 96bn to JPY 200bn by 2021. As one of the key strategic initiatives to achieve this ambitious goal, the Brand Marketing Platform Group is developing a comprehensive marketing platform, which enables our clients to fully utilize Rakuten's assets such as owned/paid media, demographic data, and purchase behavior data, and to accelerate their marketing and branding activities.


In this position, the Senior Producer - Marketing Platform will play single or multiple key roles in product development, such as:


  • Technical Product Management
  • Program Management
  • Project Management
  • Service Operation Management

 

You will have both a technical and business perspective, and will accelerate businesses by platform development and operation. You will also lead collaborations among cross-functional, cross-organizational and cross-border teams.


There are multiple career-building opportunities for a talented product manager, program manager, and project manager to develop multiple products by utilizing Rakuten's big data and strong media, while working closely with business-side stakeholders.


Responsibilities:


Technical Product Management:


  • Take accountability for achievement of business requirements, goals, and KPI/KGI, from a standpoint of Tech organization
  • Work closely with product managers and other business-side stakeholders with different knowledge and background, and make business plan and product roadmap as one team
  • For single or multiple businesses and products, with involving business-side stakeholders, define business requirements, set goals, and design KPI/KGI structure
  • Define high-level functional and non-functional requirements, with aligning with business requirements, goals, and KPI/KGI
  • Partner with a program manager and project managers in prioritization and roadmap for the marketing platform in support of business goals and needs, with flexibly aligning with volatile business environment, social circumstances, and competitive situations


Program Management:


  • Take accountability for program which consists of multiple projects, and drive forward the platform and product development and service operation
  • Plan, acquire, and allocate necessary resources, such as human resource or budget, and achieve business requirements, goals, and KPI/KGI for multiple different businesses and products
  • Resolve dependencies and conflicts among projects, and lead prioritization and roadmap for the marketing platform in support of business goals and needs, with flexibly aligning with volatile business environment, social circumstances, and competitive situations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organizational and cross-border teams to integrate with internal and external systems, platforms, and services

 

Project Management:

 

  • Take accountability for single or multiple projects, and drive forward the platform and product development and service operation
  • Lead project planning and execution, and achieve business requirements, goals, and KPI/KGI for businesses and products which managing projects contribute to
  • Partner with a technical product manager in elaborating high-level functional and non-functional requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organizational and cross-border teams to integrate with internal and external systems, platforms, and services


Service Operation Management:

 

  • Take accountability for service operations for multiple products and services which are related to each other, and achieve business requirements, goals, and KPI/KGI for multiple different businesses and products
  • Foresee business growth and product roadmap, and plan, acquire, and allocate necessary resources, such as human resource or budget, for the future demand
  • Build and lead a service operation team for day-to-day operation, and continuously enhance service operation processes in terms of efficiency and effectiveness

 

Minimum Qualifications:


Technical Product Management:

  • 3+ years of experience in digital product/service development; experience in marketing or advertising area is a plus
  • Experience in collaborating with Tech team to develop digital products/services
  • Basic understanding of software development process
  • Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders to clarify business issues, make hypothesis to solve the issues, and draw a roadmap to verify the hypothesis


Program Management:

 

  • 10+ years of experience in software development including 3+ years of program/project management experience
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in managing conflicting resources and optimal resource allocation
  • Proven ability to build Tech team from scratch or strengthen an existing team


Project Management:

 

  • 5+ years of experience in software development including 1+ years of project management experience
  • Experience in project planning and execution
  • Proven ability to define requirements both of functional and non-functional


Service Operation Management:

 

  • 5+ years of experience in service operation including 2+ years of business process analysis
  • Experience in collaborating with both Biz team and Tech team to define and operate business process
  • Proven ability to build service operation team from scratch or strengthen an existing team


Overall:

 

  • Basic understanding of digital marketing ecosystem and its technologies; actual work experience is a plus
  • Worked closely with business stakeholders; experience in marketing or advertising area is a plus
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem solving ability
  • Proactive self-starter with self-motivated mind
  • Strong get-things-done mind with a sense of ownership
  • Proven ability to deal with frequent changes
  • Excellent communication, relationship skills and a strong team player
  • Fluent Japanese communication skill
  • Business level English communication skill

 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with BI tools - Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.
  • Experience with big data solutions - Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Retail or e-commerce industry experience
  • Consumer packaged goods or durable goods industry experience
