The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a talented HR professional ready to take the next step in their career as a Senior Manager, Global Total Rewards within our Employee Experience team in our Liberty Village office in Toronto. 

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, you will lead the Total Rewards function, including compensation, benefits, payroll, recognition and wellness initiatives at Rakuten Kobo.

Here’s what we are looking for:

Knowledgeable: You have 5-7 years’ experience managing compensation, payroll and benefits programs. You know the tech sector, global compensation market trends and have a sense of urgency, willingness to learn and a drive to go above and beyond every day.

Advisor:  You will review and govern our total rewards programs to ensure continued equity and competitiveness as a leading technology focused company and look for ways to continually enhance the rewards experience.

Organized: You are impeccably organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet complex demands and competing deadlines.  You are detailed and able to execute on deliverables with a high degree of accuracy.

The Responsibilities:


·       Become the subject matter expert on the company’s stock option plan (from grant, exercise, and sale steps, to tax requirements and training employees on the program)

·       Manage group benefits plans & renewals globally

·       Manage annual bonus, merit, promotion/equity processes

·       Liaise with Rakuten Global Rewards team for market assessments and job leveling

·       Analyze headcount, turnover, equity data and prepare reports

·       Preparation of payroll reports and files for month-end accounting close with Finance team

·       Provide guidance and advice relating to benefits, compensation, market analysis.

·       Oversee & approve payroll globally (Canada, USA, Brazil, and various European countries)

·       Manage employee recognition & wellness initiatives

·       Lead, mentor, guide the Total Rewards team.

As the Senior Manager, Global Total Rewards, you will have the following:

·       Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Business, Human Resources or a related field. CPP Designation an asset.

·       5-7 years’ HR experience in a total rewards capacity

·       Functional experience with salary benchmarking and job evaluation

·       Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal); ability to present ideas in a clear and concise manner

·       Strong planning and analytic skills; advanced mastery of Excel

·       Innovative problem solver, questions complicated situations and looks for ways to improve processes

·       Customer service approach with ability to engage and collaborate with employees at all levels

·       Experience with payroll & HRIS required; Ceridian Dayforce and Workday experience an asset

·       Self-starter who is eager to take on new responsibilities and grow in a fast paced environment

·       Relevant Tech sector experience an asset
