We are searching for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Rakuten USA team. The position reports to the VP, Finance and will provide financial and analytical support to the Finance function in the regional headquarter including financial analysis, management reporting, and KPI management for Rakuten USA and various group companies in the region. This role regularly works with and supports the respective business leaders and communicates with other Rakuten group companies’ finance and accounting teams including our Japan Headquarters. 


  • Analyze P/L, headcount, and/or other key performance indicators’ budget/forecast/actual in Rakuten USA and the Rakuten group of companies, and prepare weekly/monthly/quarterly regional reporting to management team.
  • Perform weekly and monthly reviews of the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement analyzing variance to profit plan, previous forecast and prior year for each site. Discuss key items with management and summarize key issues in a monthly report.
  • Closely monitor and track each financial, KPIs, other metrics, and business or operational trend data for dashboards.
  • Support budget making and P/L management in business entities
  • Standardize operations/chart of accounts, consider implementing Shared Service function, and organize business operations/workflows including enhancing or replacing FP&A tools/systems to strengthen our finance function as regional headquarter
  • Support post-merger Integration from Financial point of view, particularly implementing weekly/monthly forecasting process in accordance with operation rules in Rakuten group
  • Participate in regular weekly forecasting and annual planning processes, supporting other Finance team members and business leads as necessary.
  • Ensure completion of various key business analysis projects that have concrete financial benefits to the organization.
  • Review financial transaction details and accrual preparation in Rakuten USA such as vendor payments across multiple business areas for completeness and accuracy in accordance with GAAP, with a focus on identifying and mitigating issues.
  • Partners with Accounting Team during monthly close to support the variance explanations between actual and forecast in Rakuten USA.
  • Work with business personnel and teams such as accounts payable and procurement as needed to resolve issues and ensure complete and accurate expense postings in monthly financial results.
  • Support business personnel and other functional teams with their understanding of the accounting cycle and standard company procedures to ensure that vendor invoices, travel, and other expenses are recorded in a timely manner, via the appropriate corporate processes and systems to enable accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage cost allocation for Corporate functions and intercompany cross charges
  • Ad hoc reporting and other miscellaneous projects as assigned
  • 5+ years financial planning and analysis experience; prior experience should include familiarity with U.S. GAAP as well as general financial modeling
  • Experience in a global organization and/or the high-tech services industry beneficial
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with other Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with Oracle, SAP, Quickbooks, or general ledger systems preferred
  • Experience with Adaptive Planning, Oracle FP&A, DOMO, BPC, or financial planning tools strongly preferred
  • Proactive approach and curiosity around tasks such as seeking opportunities on projects, performing analysis, and making recommendations for improvements; looking to develop leadership and future management skills
  • High attention to detail with a willingness to review and research data
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an aptitude for learning new systems and working with large amounts of data
  • Competent in financial modeling, research, and drawing insights from data and people
  • Adept at collaboration, with strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment as a professional, and take the initiative in driving projects
  • Able to listen, ask questions, and determine when information is sensitive or confidential
  • Capacity to tailor communications, particularly financial information, to the audience, and to explain financial concepts in non-financial terms
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and time to meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Solid communication skills
  • Japanese skills helpful, but not required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business
