To achieve these goals, we need strong project managers to not only lead projects, but enhance project management best practices within Rakuten. Due to the dynamic environment, a successful project manager will need to be able to navigate through uncertainty, juggle conflicting priorities, and set the project up for success through benchmark processes. You must have strong project management methodology mindset and experience (you may have experience with waterfall, agile, or both), the communication skills to excel in a multicultural environment, and innate ability to appropriately manage your stakeholders. It goes without saying that you will need to know how to define and produce standard project management artifacts, appropriately manage processes, and steer projects from the initiation through to its realization.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, implement and ensure that project processes are followed and are adapted as required
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities, project objectives and scope
  • Enable smooth communication between team members and between different teams (including outsourced teams)
  • Facilitate meetings efficiently, and create and distribute meetings minutes as needed
  • Manage budget as required
  • Manage and report overall project schedule (including negotiation of release date with business stakeholders)
  • Gather estimates
  • Conduct training of team leaders in project management
  • Report status and escalate risks and issues to management
  • Develop metrics for team management
  • Drive adoption of the Rakuten Project Management Methodology (RPMM)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to influence others
  • Strong project management core competencies
  • Analytical, process oriented and organized
  • Experience with modern project management tools, preferably JIRA/Confluence and MS Project

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP, Prince2, or in-house equivalent Project Management qualification
  • Engineering background (i.e. System Engineering)
  • Ability to create effective metrics and illustrative charts (i.e. value stream mapping, cause-effect diagrams, etc.)
  • Experience of working in large corporations where some level of standardization is required for better collaboration
  • Experience in managing technical teams and exposure to technology projects
  • Scrum team coaching and transformation experience highly advantageous

Language Level:

  • English: Business Level
  • Japanese: Basic Level
  • Have TOEIC score over 800
