The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Global Creative Director to develop creative strategy and manage an internal team of creative professionals to best articulate and deliver Kobo’s brand promise in meaningful ways for current and future customers - across all countries, touch points and programs.  This role reports to the Director of Marketing Production and will work in close collaboration with all marketing functions, business unit leaders and cross-functional teams.


This role will provide critical direction and support for all marketing and creative initiatives – from collaborating in the development of creative briefs to final creative execution. It requires a passion to break through with innovative ideas while ensuring alignment with the business objectives. It requires strong people, persuasion and presentation skills.  Solid expertise in retail, digital, social, experiential, email, print and creative development process is key. The ideal candidate must have exceptional communication, relationship building, influencing and analytical skills, and will be a brand advocate across the organization.


The Person:

  • Coach, mentor and lead a team of in-house graphic designers, copy writers and external agencies as necessary with a focus on improving efficiency and quality while delivering product, brand, partner and corporate creative solutions.
  • Proactively partner and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to bring the brand to life with compelling & engaging copy and beautiful, evocative design in various channels and markets, maintaining a consistent voice with local resonance.
  • Develop and pitch creative concepts. Deliver robust toolkits, advertising material, video assets and otherwise to support.
     
  • Analyze customer insights to plan, test and learn the most effective communication/creative approaches.
  • Work closely with the Campaign Delivery team, estimating project work and setting deliverables for the team to optimize production.


The Skillset:

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in a senior creative management role with significant people leadership responsibilities. 
  • Extensive experience in copywriting, copy editing and copy direction
  • Proven success in delivering outstanding results with a focus on flawless creative output and innovative, strategic approaches which drive brand loyalty, strong executional abilities, and outstanding customer/partner engagement. 
  • Experience leading teams of Design, Copy, and Production resources 
  • A true problem solver that grasps issues at the core level and offers insightful solutions to drive and improve the business. 
  • An effective and collaborative leader with the demonstrated ability to impact and influence across various functions and groups to achieve business results 
  • Commitment to quality. 
  • Respectful and constructive; able to have direct and courageous conversations. 
  • Detail oriented, highly driven and results focused. 
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and public speaking skills
