The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Web Developer to join our Big Data team! This position is perfect for a technically capable individual who enjoys working in a diverse, flexible, collaborative, and fun environment and has a passion for building user-focused experiences.  Reporting to the VP of Big Data, you will learn more about Big Data by bringing new data-driven features to life.



·                Build modern web interfaces for Big Data projects using .NET, HTML, CSS, and Javascript

·                Shepherd your own code from development and testing to production.

·                Participate in code reviews; give and take constructive feedback.

·                Work directly with business owners, technical architects, QA, and fellow developers to define and deploy projects.

·                Keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the industry and use this knowledge to drive innovation.


The Skillset:

·                1-5 years of experience as a web developer.

·                Strong experience of HTML, CSS, C# and .NET.

·                Experience with HTML templating engines (cshtml, Jinja, ERB, underscore, handlebars).

·                Strong UI skills.

·                Ability to handle complex architecture.

·                A strong foundation in MVC design pattern.

·                Experience with Git or other version control systems.

·                Understanding of responsive design and cross-platform display issues.

·                Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with distributed teams; passion for design and an eye for detail.


Nice to Haves:

·       Experience with React is a plus.

·       Knowledge and experience with object-oriented programming is a plus.

·       Experience with compiled stylesheets is a plus (LESS, SCSS, SASS).

·       Candidates will be required to complete a coding test as part of the interview process.
