The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Financial Operations Analyst to join our Finance - Hardware team! The role is an integral part of our Finance team. The Financial Operations Analyst is primarily responsible for overseeing finance operations with respect to Kobo’s hardware sales and inventory.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the candidate will closely monitor our inventory close process, sales and cost accounting, freight analytics and various period-end close accruals. 

The incumbent will also have various working relations internally, with various groups such as the Supply Chain and Sales Operations departments. This person will need a high level of attention to detail, have great interpersonal skills, adapt and learn quickly, and be able to work under strict and tight deadlines. An eagerness to want to improve and drive results is expected. The role is an integral part of our finance team, which makes the responsibilities crucial to the period-end accounting processes, monthly planning, and financial reporting.

The Person:

  • Financial close of sales and inventory
  • Period-end accounting and accruals processing
  • Analyze, report, and manage accruals for Freight on Sales
  • Review billings from our freight vendors
  • Manage any duty recovery initiatives
  • Estimate, report, and record inventory risks and valuation adjustments
  • Cost of Goods Sold analytics and reporting
  • Sales Return Provision Modeling
  • Creating processes and controls surrounding the areas of responsibility
  • Vendor relationship management (suppliers of hardware)
  • Leading 3PL and warehousing cost saving initiatives
  • RMA (Returned Goods) & refurbishing costing and analysis
  • Support for the forecasting and budgeting process
  • Work on special projects, as reporting is needed

The Skillset:


  • Candidates should be professional, analytic, and very detailed oriented
  • Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance or equivalent
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • 2+ years relevant experience required
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills

Nice to Haves:

  • CPA or working towards one
  • SQL experience
  • Prior experience in inventory costing and/or freight & logistics is an asset
  • Prior experience in a CE company is an asset
