Director, Self Publishing (Kobo Writing Life)

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Content Officer, the Director, Self Publishing (Kobo Writing Life) is responsible for overseeing Kobo’s self-publishing business, driving strategic initiatives, and leading the KWL business team.

Kobo Writing Life responsibilities include delivering to KPIs for growing KWL’s global sales, user base, and brand. You will deliver ongoing analysis of the competitive self-publishing market, and maintain relationships with KWL’s author and publisher partners. You will lead prioritization of the KWL dev roadmap, incorporating business opportunities and user research to build business cases supporting new platform features. You will proactively seek branding opportunities across writing conferences and online writing communities, and be a strong advocate of KWL and self-publishing to authors around the world. Finally, you will oversee the dynamic KWL business team responsible for supporting all of the above initiatives through author care, merchandising, and improving platform experience.


The Person

  • University Bachelor’s Degree, advanced degree is a plus
  • 7-10 years business experience, preferably with a focus in publishing, self-publishing, or digital content sales
  • You have a passion for Kobo Writing Life’s mission to create a best-in-industry self-publishing platform for writers around the world, and can balance authors’ needs with internal business goals
  • Experience managing a business P&L and budget, tracking sales results, and strong attention to detail strongly preferred
  • You have proven ability to lead a team and work cross-functionally across an organization
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment, can quickly adapt to changing priorities, and can work independently
  • You are a confident brand representative, comfortable presenting to internal and external groups as a subject matter expert
  • Strong understanding of large-scale customer experience management is a plus
  • Exceptional oral and written communication required
