Summary Description:
The Director of Creative Services leads the integrated creative solutions across all Rakuten Marketing’s product lines to deliver customer facing assets that create continuity across channels, and experiences people love. Responsible for leading a large team made up of Creative Developers and Web Production Specialists, the Director of Creative Services will maintain and enhance a culture of innovation and creativity while supporting high production volumes for both Growth and Enterprise level clients. Critical to the success in this role is the ability to use operational data and a team balance scorecard to effectively and efficiently optimize recourses according to budget and demand. The Director, Creative Services will collaborate with the Product Team to continually evolve Rakuten Marketing’s creative technology ensuring alignment with Product strategy and create a unified end-to-end user experience for internal teams and clients.

We’re looking for a self-starter who has a passion for design and creative innovation. Strong candidates will innately seek to learn new technologies and tools as needed and stay up to date on industry trends to improve the effectiveness of our creative offerings for our clients and the overall team.

  • Comfortable being brought into client meetings to serve as subject matter expert on creative strategy and lead execution to ensure design quality and consistency across channels
  • Develop and educate the team on creative and technical best practices
  • Ability to delegate tasks appropriately to be able to focus on the bigger picture
  • Utilize analytic tools such as DOMO and JIRA to keep track of team metrics and report insights and trends that speak to team performance and efficiency
  • Proactively look to identify ways to improve process and overall team efficiency while maintaining high standards for output
  • Maintain technical knowledge and always be aware of latest industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure Rakuten Marketing’s creative capabilities remain ahead of our competition
  • Lead and manage a large team, serve as a mentor and coach fostering their growth and development
  • Responsible for making sure team members are trained and up to date on skills requirements, and ensure smooth onboarding for new hires
  • Lead by example and foster a culture of cross-team collaboration and fun!


Technical / functional expertise
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Foundational knowledge of technical (IAB) market standards & programmatic tools (Ad-serving, SSP, DSP, ad-networks, VAST, VPAID, etc.).
  • Ability to design and collaborate with team to create concepts adhering to client’s branding/style guidelines and goals using Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.
  • Knowledgeable on web and mobile UX/UI
  • Knowledgeable on current and upcoming industry design trends.
  • Understands mobile & online to offline advertising concepts
  • Understanding of display and affiliate marketing
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel and PowerPoint for client-ready reports & presentations

Required Skills and Experience:
Candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in digital advertising or programmatic advertising in creative related functions; With 2+ years in a leadership/management position of digital teams/projects. Successful candidates may bring experience from an agency, client, or consulting environment.

Bachelor’s degree OR Accredited Graphic/Digital Design certification preferred.
