The KWL team helps independent authors successfully sell their self-published content to Kobo customers. Reporting to the Director of KWL, the Author Experience Manager will keep their finger on the pulse of our author user base, bringing together data and user feedback to inform decisions on new opportunities and platform developments. You will help drive userbase and sales growth of the KWL platform by optimizing the author’s experience, and contributing new ideas for making KWL an exceptional way for authors and small publishers around the world to upload titles to Kobo.

The Person:

  • You will be a champion for our diverse user base of independent authors, ensuring that each step of the self-publishing process—from sign-up, to getting support, to selling with Kobo—offers a fast, easy, and excellent experience
  • Manage a small team responsible for providing stellar author care and creating engaging online content for the KWL blog, newsletter, and social media
  • Work cross-functionally with the KWL development team, customer acquisition, and CRM, managing ongoing testing to continually improve the platform, including A/B testing, NPS surveys, Google Analytics, and Hotjar
  • Drive user base growth through sign-ups, engagement, optimization, project support, and brand building initiatives
  • Act as a KWL subject matter expert internally and externally, identifying key opportunities for improvement and growth
  • Analyze and continually improve how we communicate with and market to current and potential authors
  • Generate competitive review analyses, proactively identify trends and opportunities in self-publishing, and communicate learnings to the business team
  • Manage the Author Services experience, handling relationships with external vendors, increasing user sign-ups, and tracking success to meet current KPIs
  • Occasional travel to writing conferences to connect with current and potential authors

The Skillset:

Required

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience. Detailed knowledge of digital publishing, digital marketing, or online customer support is an asset
  • Experience successfully managing direct reports is a plus
  • Proven ability to deliver data-driven strategy recommendations. You are motivated by figuring out what is working (and what isn’t), and how to prove it
  • An ambitious problem-solver, you are excited to tackle issues and develop win-win resolutions
  • A strong desire to learn about digital publishing and self-publishing trends to identify key areas of opportunity
  • Outstanding collaboration abilities to work cross-functionally across many teams
  • A true team player, willing to step up and help with projects and issues as they arise
  • Exceptional oral and written communication, interested in public speaking opportunities
